Description (dcterms:description): This is another game recorded by E. De. M. Humphries in Karwi, a district in Uttar Pradesh a kind of “Solitaire,” known as “Kowwa Dand.” As written by Humphries he had difficulty recording the rules of this game, as the man who showed him the diagram had forgotten them, and the only man in the village who knew the game at all, had not played it for years.

Rules (dcterms:instructionalMethod): It is played by one person on a board of ten spaces, arranged accordingly in the board shown in the image. According to Humphries, the intention of the player is twofold. He has first to get all his nine “men” on the board, and then to get all but one off again.
The moves allowed are as follows:
When placing the “men” on the board, they may be moved from any one space to the next but one in the same straight line, provided that it be vacant. It is permissible to leap over an intervening “man.”
When removing the pieces from the board, they are taken, as in draughts, by leaping over the piece to be captured on to a vacant space in the same straight line.
